Shirts: never without

A centuries-old garment that relentlessly rides through eras, historical events, and catwalks

Classic in cotton, plain, with colorful prints, or in the most diverse fabrics: the shirt continues to be among the evergreen, timeless protagonists.

Without a doubt, the shirt is one of those garments that were born to last, to interpret the customs and traditions of every era.

Of Roman origin, worn under the tunic as a light garment, it transforms into a token of love in the Middle Ages and ends up representing the aristocracy from the end of the 1600s onwards. Over the years, however, thanks to its chameleon-like nature, the shirt has become the symbolic garment of the status quo for politicians, young protesters, artists, workers... and even athletes!

But how did it end up in our wardrobe? With women entering the workforce, the shirt became a symbol of their emancipation for the fairer sex. Likewise, such a garment could not fail to attract the attention of the big names in Haute Couture. Coco Chanel presented it as an essential garment with an unmistakable masculine cut. In the 1940s, it was finally given sweetness and sensuality, taking it away from workplaces and making it the passe-partout it still is today. This sensual and delicate cut was swallowed up by the extra elements that characterized it in the '80s/'90s, fluorescent colors, extra shoulder pads, oversized or overslim cuts, combined without any apparent sense with oversized trousers and super mini skirts.

Its versatility undoubtedly continues today in all its forms and colors; let's now look at the three main trends for the spring 2022 season:

1- the Classic: a classic cotton or linen plain-colored shirt should never be missing from your wardrobe. This model, in fact, thanks to its extraordinary versatility, is perfect for office outfits, a dinner with friends, or simply for the thousand chores that characterize daily life, giving that touch of freshness and sensuality that should never be missing in women's outfits. This year we note that among the trendy plain colors of the season there are also pastel colors, such as mint green, warm beige, and very delicate shades of orange.

2- make way for prints! If you are looking for a shirt that goes beyond the classic plain color, this year is the right year: floral, Vichy, and '70s prints in the liveliest colors will give your outfit an extra boost.

3- the Bowling model! The shirt with the 'Cuban' collar is that garment that captivates at first sight: short sleeves that almost reach the elbows, an open collar, and large pockets, this garment is distinguished by its versatility in casual or more formal outfits, also thanks to the numerous classic or pop prints, unique colors, and fabrics with which we see them.

Bold, sensual, and dynamic, the shirts of the spring 2022 season are perfect with jeans, trousers, under mini dresses or maxi skirts, creating a perfect mix for an always original look.
